New Yorkers head to the polls to elect a new mayor on Tuesday, with 34-year-old Zohran Mamdani, a “democratic socialist”, the strong favourite to win. His two rivals are the Republican outsider, Curtis Sliwa, and former New York governor Andrew Cuomo.
