On Tuesday (August 26), Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce took their “Love Story” to “New Heights” as the two superstars announced their engagement. The news was shared on Instagram and immediately became the most talked-about topic in entertainment this year – aside from Swift’s upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl, which is expected to drop this fall. The exciting reveal went viral beyond viral and has seemingly been all anyone can talk about ever since.
As is typically the case whenever something happens in Swift’s world, fans rushed to streaming platforms and download stores like iTunes to purchase her songs and albums in huge numbers and show their love — not that her music needed a sales boost. All the excitement around Swift and Kelce’s engagement is visible on iTunes, as multiple titles connected to the singer-songwriter soar.
Taylor Swift Almost Hits the Top 10
On the iTunes Top Albums chart in the United States, 12 of Swift’s full-lengths are present on the 200-spot ranking. She currently sits just beneath the top 10 with both Reputation and The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology. The two titles have climbed significantly in the past several hours and land at Nos. 14 and 15, respectively.
Multiple Bestselling Albums
Several other favorites from her discography, including Lover (No. 22), Folklore [Deluxe Edition]
(No. 32), Midnights [3AM Edition] (No. 46), Red (Taylor’s Version) (No. 50), her self-titled debut (No. 53), Evermore [Deluxe] (No. 65), and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) [Deluxe] (No. 77), all live within the top 100.
Three more titles — Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), and the original Fearless — have returned to the iTunes Top Albums tally in the lower half, but will likely continue to climb.
“So High School” Almost Reaches the Top 40
Over on the iTunes Top Songs list, Swift is not quite as successful, as it seems her fanbase prefers to purchase full-lengths instead of individual tracks. Her biggest hit on the platform at the moment, as of the time of writing, is “So High School,” which nearly breaks back into the top 40 as it lands at No. 43. The singer captioned her engagement photos on Instagram: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” That led people in America to begin buying “So High School” again.
The tune, which was never pushed as a single but is featured on The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, managed to peak at No. 24 on the Hot 100.
“Love Story” and “August”
Two other popular cuts from Swift return to the iTunes Top Songs chart, and they will likely soar as the day progresses. “Love Story,” which feels more appropriate than ever in this moment, is back at No. 155, while “August,” which recently experienced its annual boost as the month began, returns at No. 164.
