Steven McIntoshEntertainment reporterPA MediaWhen massively popular artists such as Taylor Swift, Oasis or Radiohead announce a tour, it generates huge fan excitement and makes headline news. But within hours of the tickets going on sale, that excitement is often replaced by disappointment and complaints about the number of tickets immediately being offered for resale at extortionate prices. However, proposed new rules due to be announced by the government on Wednesday are intended to change that by making it illegal to resell tickets for live events above their original cost. The measures, designed to end industrial-scale ticket touting, will be arguably the most…
TAMPA, Fla. – As the U.S. men’s national team took to the field for the final training session of 2025 on Monday, they were undoubtedly in the “up” part in a year of ups and downs. The World Cup co-hosts are in the midst of a four match unbeaten run, an ideal trade for the four match losing streak they had as they entered last summer’s Concacaf Gold Cup. It makes Tuesday’s clash against Uruguay a fitting capstone for a year full of trials and tribulations for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. They will have a chance to measure their progress against…
COP30 host Brazil has created 10 new Indigenous territories, with the climate summit hit by protests in recent days. The designation means the areas, including one in part of the Amazon, will have their culture and environment protected under Brazilian law – though this is not always enforced. The move follows similar actions from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, whose government recognised Indigenous possession of 11 territories last year. The latest measure will be formalised through a presidential decree. It comes as thousands have protested at the UN’s annual climate conference, with some carrying signs reading “demarcation now”.Earlier last week, demonstrators -…

These queens are leaving to start their own colonies. It’s a risky endeavor. Even if they are successful, they still face threats — like a parasitic queen that may try to topple them. Joachim K. Löckener, CC BY-SA 3.0/Wikimedia Commons hide caption toggle caption Joachim K. Löckener, CC BY-SA 3.0/Wikimedia Commons Biologist E.O. Wilson once wrote that “ants are the most warlike of all animals,” noting that clashes between ant colonies dwarfed the human battles at Waterloo and Gettysburg. But sometimes ant colonies get conquered not by outright warfare, but by stealth and deceit. In fact, sometimes the members of…
“Sailing Smart: What Makes Investors Say Yes to Your Production Company and Is It Worth It?” And how can TV producers gain scale without losing creative control? Those were some of the big questions in focus during a panel at the Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event portion of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) on Tuesday, as M&A, and particularly TV production sector consolidation, are top of mind for many in the sector. Marina Williams, co-founder of Fremantle-owned Asacha Media Group, Kjartan Thor Thordarsson, CEO of Sagafilm Nordic at Icelandic production firm Sagafilm (Stella Blómkvist), in which Beta Film owns a 25 percent stake,…
Mark Wood is fully fit and available for selection in the first Ashes Test on Friday, having come through an extended spell of bowling at full pace in the Perth Stadium nets without issue – before emerging with his pads on to have a bat minutes later – as England’s seamers found conditions at the ground so good they were “licking their lips”.Wood’s left leg was heavily strapped throughout, as it has been since he returned after surgery to that knee in March, but the tightness in his hamstring that concerned him during the first day of England’s warm-up against…
