Frances Ryan’s article rings familiar bells (Young people want to ‘go private’ – I’m a lifelong supporter of the NHS, but I can see why, 20 August). I have been waiting 60 weeks for a partial knee replacement. The hospital website and the NHS website say “average patient waiting time 18 weeks”.However, at every stage my wait has been beset by avoidable delays: two cancelled appointments rescheduled months later, three months’ delay reviewing the MRI scan, referral from one consultant to another – a “new referral” – and a 12-week wait. After my first pre-op, failure to follow up on outstanding…
Last year, Ghostface Killah told Rolling Stone that he was disappointed by the rap landscape, lamenting, “a lot of stuff be regular darts.” He added, “I don’t hear niggas doing storytelling no more.” His thoughts went viral, even becoming the catalyst for an additional conversation with Stephen A. Smith. While bemoaning a “lack of substance,” he declared, “We’re the type of niggas that can rhyme about an eyeball falling out your face, and having the police pick it up and put it in a plastic bag.” He said “we,” but it feels like only Ghost would concoct that scenario —…
There are a number of reasons why this summer has been so warm.High pressure has regularly been overhead, meaning long spells of dry, calm, sunny weather. The dry ground has also helped temperatures to climb.Less of the Sun’s energy has been used in evaporating moisture leaving more to heat the ground and the air.A marine heatwave has also played a part with sea temperatures in parts of the UK up to 3C above normal at times, reducing the usual cooling effect around the coast. However, scientists are clear that climate change is making our summers hotter and drier.Nine of the last 10…

When Donald Trump stepped up his campaign to influence the US Federal Reserve, he traveled less than a mile from the White House, to tour the central bank’s headquarters. But as the administration considers how to actually get what it wants, one of the US president’s acolytes looked about 500 miles south.A condominium above the Four Seasons hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, is at the heart of an extraordinary battle over the future of the Fed, and the independence of its power of the world’s largest economy. For a generation, presidents have respected the Fed’s autonomy. They might disagree with its decisions.…
The Oura ring was my favorite smart ring because its app was easy to understand and I liked some of the newer features from its latest software update. At the steep price of $299, this smart ring is made up of aerospace-grade titanium – one of the strongest materials on earth — according to the site. Before I received my Oura ring, I was sent a ring sizer to figure out my ring size. Other smart rings did the same since sizing varies per brand. Once I received the Oura ring, I downloaded the Oura app (available for iOS and Android).…
Upload is a sci-fi comedy streaming on Amazon Prime created by The Office alum Greg Daniels.Robbie Amell stars as Nate, a young app developer who’s transported to a virtual afterlife after a self-driving car accident. Shepherded to the screen by The Office’s Greg Daniels, the satirical sci-fi comedy centers on a virtual afterlife where the soon-to-be-dead can live on (sorta) in place of the pearly gates. Robbie…

The good thing about this website is that it’s free, and you are allowed to click away. If you stay, you’ll get smarter, though. That’s a money-back guarantee. Let’s get to it.One of the most famous highlights in MLB history is what is known as the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World.” Bobby Thomson of the New York…
