Apple appears to be winding down support of Clips, with the company removing Clips from the App Store and saying it will no longer be making any updates. In a support page on the Apple website, the company says that as of October 10, Clips is no longer available for new users to download, but existing users can continue to use the app on current or earlier versions of iOS and iPadOS. Existing users can also re-download the app from their Apple account if needed. Without updates, it will probably become more difficult to use Clips over time, so Apple…
Charli XCX wasn’t supposed to be Saturday Night Live‘s musical guest, but that didn’t stop her from making a surprise appearance on the late night show Saturday night. Role Model, who served as the official musical guest of the second episode of season 51, hit the stage where he performed a rendition of his track, “Sally, When The Wine Runs Out.” When performing the song at his live shows, the artist typically brings out a special guest of his own, known better to fans as the “Sally girl.” In the past, Role Model has chosen artists like Conan Gray and…
Britain’s Kat Matthews claimed silver at the World Ironman Championship, but compatriot Lucy Charles-Barclay was forced to pull out while leading as competitors battled sweltering conditions in Kona, Hawaiʻi.Matthews benefited from the late withdrawals of Charles-Barclay and American Taylor Knibb to finish second behind Norway’s Solveig Lovseth, who claimed her first Ironman world title.Charles-Barclay was leading after 10 miles of the marathon but visibly began to struggle as temperatures pushed 28C with 70% humidity. She eventually pulled out with about nine miles remaining after consulting with her husband at the side of the road. That seemingly left the path clear for Knibb…
When the first cells appeared on Earth approximately 3.8 billion years ago, viruses were already here to greet them. Ever since, viruses have been devising ways to infect cells, and cells have been responding by evolving ways to stop these infections. This evolutionary dance eventually led to the development of your immune system.A key aspect of your immune system is to distinguish “self” from “nonself” so it can destroy and remove foreign materials from your body. While this immune reaction protects you from viruses, it also has implications for how well foreign materials such as medications work.I am a researcher…
Your support helps us to tell the storyFrom reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it’s investigating the financials of Elon Musk’s pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, ‘The A Word’, which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story. The…
Larry Alvarez, a jailed founder of the notorious Tren de Aragua gang known by his alias “Larry Changa”, has published a letter asking Colombian President Gustavo Petro to open peace talks leading to the transnational group’s “demobilisation”.
This week the Pew Research Center published a study about how parents managed screen time for their kids 12 and under. The results were not particularly surprising (or enlightening, if we’re being honest). A full 90 percent of parents said their children watched TV, and 61 percent said their kids interact with smartphones at least on occasion. Somewhat surprisingly, only 50 percent said they let them play a game console of some kind. While 42 percent of respondents said they could do better managing their kids’ screen time, 86 percent did say they had rules around screens, even if they…
Microplastics have been found almost everywhere: in blood, placentas, lungs – even the human brain. One study estimated our cerebral organs alone may contain 5g of the stuff, or roughly a teaspoon. If true, plastic isn’t just wrapped around our food or woven into our clothes: it is lodged deep inside us.Now, researchers suspect these particles may also be meddling with our gut microbes. When Dr Christian Pacher-Deutsch at the University of Graz in Austria exposed gut bacteria from five healthy volunteers to five common microplastics, the bacterial populations shifted – along with the chemicals they produced. Some of these…
“Saturday Night Live” Weekend update hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che saw their desk crashed by former anchors Seth Meyers, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for a “Joke Off.” The trio stopped by to riff on a woman at a Tennessee hospital who broke a record by giving birth to a 13-pound baby. Some of the jokes included: *”The baby was so big he slapped the doctor on his ass.” *”Did she give birth or did the baby drive out?” *”She broke the hospital’s record and then she broke off her husband’s penis to make sure it never happens again.”…
David HaleOct 12, 2025, 01:42 AM ETCloseCollege football reporter.Joined ESPN in 2012.Graduate of the University of Delaware. So much of college football these past few years has been defined by what’s new. There’s the transfer portal, NIL money, revenue sharing, revamped rosters, realignment, private equity firms looking to do business with schools, and leagues eager to build up their cash reserves so they can finally afford to build those gold-plated lockers they’ve had their eyes on. If you fell into a coma in 2019 and awoke a week ago, the entirety of the sport would feel like some sort of fever…
