Valerie Macon/AFP via Getty Images hide caption toggle caption Valerie Macon/AFP via Getty Images Football season has arrived, and so has a new horror movie produced by Jordan Peele that delves into the sinister side of the game. HIM’s hero is a starry-eyed NFL rookie sent to train with a fading football idol, who lives in a creepy Brutalist compound in the desert. The architecture matches the vibe; there’s bloodlust in the air and even among the ragged fans who camp along the road outside. The film is…

Finely ground, freeze-dried apple leftovers may become a sustainable secret ingredient in many meat dishes. In recent taste tests at Cornell University, more than 100 volunteers could barely tell the difference between 100-percent pure meatballs and alternatives featuring as much as 20 percent fruit waste. As the food researchers behind this culinary concoction explained in their study published in the Journal of Food Science and Nutrition, the supplemental additive may also help close a glaring gap in the food industry’s circular loop. The United States Department…

(Photo by Leon Neal/Getty Images)Getty ImagesKey FactsDistrict Judge Steven Merryday wrote the lawsuit “stands unmistakably and inexcusably athwart the requirements of Rule 8,” which calls for complaints to have “simple, concise, and direct” allegations that offer a “short and plain statement of the claim.”The lawsuit, which is 85 pages in length, alleges one count of defamation on page 80…
The National Academies responded to the EPA’s actions by saying it would prepare a report of its own, which it did despite the threat of a congressional investigation into its work. And the result undercuts the EPA’s claims even further. Blunt and to the point The NAS report does not mess around with subtleties, going straight to the main point: Everything we’ve learned since the endangerment finding confirms that it was on target. “EPA’s 2009 finding that the human-caused emissions of greenhouse gases threaten human health and welfare was accurate, has stood the test of time, and is now reinforced…
new video loaded: Late Night Takes On Kimmel’s Suspension and Free SpeechtranscriptBacktranscriptLate Night Takes On Kimmel’s Suspension and Free SpeechJon Stewart, host of “The Daily Show,” joked about having an “administration-compliant” show, joining several commentaries on free speech and the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel on ABC.“We have another fun, hilarious, administration-compliant show. All this swirling around — are the naysayers and the critics right? Is Donald Trump stifling free speech?” “Of course not, Jon. Americans are free to express any opinion we want. To suggest otherwise is laughable.” “That is blatant censorship, and it always starts small. Remember in Week…
One of college football’s oldest rivalries could be headed towards a period of dormancy as No. 6 Oregon and Oregon State have yet to reach an agreement to extend their rivalry — still known by most unofficially as the “Civil War” — beyond this season. Now nonconference foes, the Ducks and Beavers will square off Saturday at Autzen Stadium in what may be the final meeting for the foreseeable future. Both schools have made it clear that they wish to continue their 131-year-old tradition, but with conference realignment driving a wedge between them and nothing yet on the books, uncertainty…
When the gut health revolution began a decade or so ago, few could have predicted the sheer variety of pre- and probiotic foods that we would come to embrace in our diets.
