ITV Studios is having a buzzy start to Mipcom as it announces that two of their big, new upcoming dramas have been snapped up for dozens of territories just as the Cannes-based TV confab kicks off.
Both “Coldwater,” a new Andrew Lincoln drama, and Sister-produced thriller “The Guest” have sold wide, the ITV-owned production conglomerate confirmed today.
While Showtime has nabbed the rights to both shows in the U.S., as previously announced, the series have also now sold to more than 40 countries including Canal+ in Poland, TVNZ for New Zealand and OSN Group for 28 Middle East countries. “Coldwater” is set to air in more than 40 countries while “The Guest” has been acquired across 50 territories, including BritBox Australia.
“Coldwater” sees “The Walking Dead” alum Lincoln star alongside “Trainspotting’s” Ewan Bremner in a new drama about an ordinary married man who falls under the influence of a dangerous newcomer. It is produced by Sister (“Black Doves”) and created and written by David Ireland (“The Lovers”).
Meanwhile “The Guest” stars Eve Myles (“Broadchurch”) and Gabrielle Creevy (“Black Doves”) in a fast-paced thriller following Myles and Creevy as two friends whose lives begin to unravel. It is produced by ITV Studios-owned Quay St Productions (“Fool Me Once”). Quay St founder Nicola Shindler (“Happy Valley”) exec produces.
“On top of the recently announced Showtime acquisition of these gripping thrillers, we’re delighted to announce swathes of new international sales for ‘The Guest’ and ‘Coldwater,’” said Tom Clark, EVP for global sales and commercial strategy, global partnerships, at ITV Studios. “As these attention-grabbing dramas continue their global expansion, we can wait to see their widespread success with audiences worldwide.”
