Jimmy Kimmel Live! has created a food donation center in Hollywood, the late night show announced Tuesday.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live Big, Beautiful Food Bank, located at the ABC show’s Hollywood backlot, will gather food and donations for the L.A. Food Bank and the St. Joseph Center.
“Cutting SNAP benefits creates uncertainty for American children, seniors and families. To support our community members in need, we’re starting a donation center,” a post on the Kimmel-hosted show’s Instagram account read in part. The show urged L.A. residents who are able to help to donate and directed those outside of L.A. to consider donating to their local food bank.
The immediate future of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP, remains unclear. There was a planned freeze on all funds for the program on Nov. 1 due to a lapse in funding caused by the current government shutdown. However, two judges issued rulings Monday that would require President Donald Trump’s administration to keep the program running. It was announced that it would be partially funded with contingency funding, despite a social media post from Trump that suggested otherwise.
The donation center’s most needed foods are low-sodium soups, chilis and stews, cans of tuna, chicken or salmon, nut butters, low-sugar cereals, protein bars, whole grain pasta and rice. They’re also in need of crackers, trail mix, fruit snacks, 100 percent juice boxes, dried fruit, UHT Milk, cereal boxes, wipes, diapers, facial cleanser, deodorant, soap, lotion, feminine hygenine products and oral hygiene products.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live Big, Beautiful Food Bank, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., is located at 6901 Hawthorn Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028.
