Villagers in the quake-hit regions of eastern Afghanistan joined rescue workers Tuesday in a desperate search for survivors of a 6.0 magnitude earthquake that killed more than 800 people. Foreign aid has been slashed since the 2021 return of the Taliban and the latest disaster has worsened Afghanistan’s protracted humanitarian crisis.
