Yossi Beilin: 'Public call for state inquiry commission is needed' to investigate October 7 attacks

At a moment when the Gaza action plan is in its infancy and the Middle Eastern peace process seems more fragile than ever, Yossi Beilin offers a world of perspective. A former justice minister and veteran architect of Israel–Palestine diplomacy, Mr. Beilin has long sought to envision possibilities that many declare unrealistic and unachievable. Yet today, as new proposals are being floated, alliances are shifting, and narratives remain fluid and elastic, his reflections offer real clarity amid the chaos and uncertainty. And while US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan is light on details, and dates, Mr. Beilin was taken by surprise by Mr. Trump’s action plan: “President Trump surprised me with what he suggested, he was really tough on all of the parties and they accepted it.” He also noted that there is a roadmap, albeit without any dates or deadlines, towards Palestinian statehood. Mr. Beilin added that the Israeli government was not involved in developing the peace plan, and that at this point in time, Israel should replace their government and put an end to Netanyahu’s far-right coalition with “very strange partners on the lunatic right”.
